US Energy Secretary Steven Chu has announced awards of over $106 million for energy efficiency and conservation programmes in 9 states.
The funds from the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) programme will support activities in Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Indiana, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.
The announcement follows one earlier this month of $354 million for energy efficiency and conservation programmes in 22 states.
“This funding will allow states across the country to make major investments in energy solutions,” says Energy Secretary Chu. “It will also promote some of the cheapest, cleanest and most reliable energy technologies we have - energy efficiency and conservation - which can be deployed immediately.”
The EECBG funds cover the development of energy efficiency and conservation strategies, transportation plans, incentive programmes for energy efficiency improvements and advanced building codes. Grants can also support energy efficiency audits and retrofits, along with the installation of renewable energy technologies on municipal buildings.
