The Pakistan government is attempting to tackle its pressing energy crisis by distributing 10 million low-energy light bulbs, according to a report in the daily newspaper Dawn.
Pakistan is currently in the grip of a major energy crisis, which is predicted to worsen as temperatures rise in coming months. The country has an energy deficit of 4000 MW – only producing around two-thirds of its energy requirements.
The Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) will have to source and deliver the light bulbs at the request of the state-run National Energy Conservation Centre (Enercon). If PEPCO cannot manufacture sufficient quantities of the low-energy light bulbs, they will have to be imported.
