According to Reuters, the Chinese Ministry of Finance has announced a subsidy programme to support the widespread adoption of energy efficiency light bulbs.
China, who makes around 70% of the world’s light bulbs, plans to introduce 50 million low-energy light bulbs as the first part of its initiative, ultimately phasing incandescent lighting out of the market. Consumers will pay only 50% of the price fixed by the manufacturer and the government, with businesses paying only 30%. The government will reimburse light bulb manufacturers for the shortfall.
