http://www.energyefficiencynews.comAfion Media Ltd World leaders launch energy efficiency partnership <p>Energy ministers from around the world got together at the G8 meeting in Rome last weekend to launch the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC).</p> <p>G8 members Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Russian Federation, the UK, and the US have all signed up to the partnership, which aims to accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency measures. Brazil, China, India, Mexico and the Republic of Korea will also participate.</p> <p>The IPEEC will create a high-level forum for participating countries to share information on best practices, policies and the implementation of energy efficiency measures.</p> <p>&ldquo;This partnership can help lead the world toward greater energy efficiency,&rdquo; said US Energy Secretary Steven Chu. &ldquo;It will facilitate greater cooperation on our shared goals: a healthier planet and a stronger global economy.&rdquo;</p> <p>One of the first tasks of the IPEEC, agreed by members at the launch, will be the establishment of a Sustainable Buildings Network (SBN) to encourage energy efficiency in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.</p> <p>The partnership will also compile and summarise all the energy efficiency action plans of participating countries and create an inventory and review of international energy efficiency initiatives.</p> <p>The IPEEC will also look for better ways of measuring and verifying the progress of participating countries towards their energy efficiency targets.</p> <p>The <a rel="external" href="http://www.iea.org/">International Energy Agency</a> (IEA) in Paris will host the IPEEC Secretariat.</p> <p>For further information:<br /> <a rel="external" href="http://www.energy.gov/">www.energy.gov/</a><br /> <a rel="external" href="http://www.iea.org/">www.iea.org/</a></p> http://www.energyefficiencynews.com/i/2110/ 2009-05-27T00:00:00-00:00 UK policy, EU policy, US policy, ROW policy, G8, International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation, IPEEC, energy efficiency, buildings & construction, regulations & control
