href="http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Home"
rel="external">Scottish Government</a> is proposing that all public sector vehicles should be low-carbon by 2020.</p>
<p>The consultation document published earlier this week also proposes that 95% of all new cars sold after this date would have to meet the same stringent low-carbon standards.</p>
<p>“Government must back up its world leading climate change targets with action,” said Climate Change Minister Stewart Stevenson.</p>
<p>He added that the public sector must be seen to lead the way and “set the standard”. The move will help create a market to drive further development of low-carbon technology, he said, and persuade consumers to move to low-carbon vehicles.</p>
<p>“Emissions from transport have been increasing in recent years and a major uptake of low carbon vehicle technologies is required to reverse this trend,” he said.</p>
