href="http://www.echelon.com/">Echelon</a> is joining forces with UK-based <a
rel="external"
href="http://www.onzo.co.uk/">Onzo</a> to develop consumer displays for its advanced metering system.</p>
<p>Onzo will bring its expertise in in-home displays and energy analysis software for consumers to Echelon’s <a
rel="external"
href="http://www.echelon.com/nes">Networked Energy Services</a> (NES) smart metering technology.</p>
<p>“This agreement will enable Onzo to provide utilities that choose Echelon’s NES System with solutions… allowing them to offer friendly yet powerful interfaces for energy monitoring and management,” says Onzo’s CEO Joel Hagan.</p>
<p>Providing real-time information to consumers about their consumption through smart metering systems is becoming a key challenge for utilities.</p>
<p>The UK, for example, has pledged to roll out smart meters to all households by 2020 and similar efforts are underway elsewhere.</p>
<p>“The combination of Onzo’s consumer interfaces and Echelon’s NES System will be able to offer new services to consumers, utilities and laterally to their distribution networks, says Mark Ossel of Echelon.</p>
