E.ON UK cuts 400 jobs from Energy Services division

E.ON UK has announced cuts of just less than 10% to the workforce in its Energy Services division that installs energy efficiency measures and boilers, provides metering services and connects homes and businesses to electricity and gas services.

“This was not an easy decision for us to take, but this is the first step as we take a long hard look at our costs, so keeping them as low as possible to ensure we offer customers the best possible service at the lowest cost,” said E.ON UK Chief Executive Paul Golby.

The move comes just after the UK Government announced its £1 billion package of energy efficiency measures to help householders meet rising energy costs.

However, E.ON UK’s Energy Services operations have been hard hit by the downturn in the country’s housing market.

The 400 jobs will go over the next six months and the company will make efforts to accommodate the cuts through voluntary redundancies and redeploy staff elsewhere within E.ON.

Golby added, however, that further cuts might be necessary in order to keep costs down for customers.
