rel="external"
href="http://www.coulombtech.com">Coulomb Technologies</a> is taking its technology to Australia.</p>
<p>The company has signed a distribution deal with <a
rel="external"
href="http://www.chargepoint.com.au">ChargePoint</a>, which will offer Coulomb’s ChargePoint® Networked Charging Stations throughout the country.</p>
<p>The first mass-produced electric vehicles will arrive in Australia in 2010 with most manufacturers launching models in 2012.</p>
<p>Pilot projects in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne are scheduled to begin in the first half of next year, which will bolster demand for charging stations.</p>
<p>“We firmly believe Australia will grow to become one of our key markets when electric cars really take off,” says CEO of Coulomb Technologies, Richard Lowenthal.</p>
<p>Researcher Andrew Simpson from <a
rel="external"
href="http://www.curtin.edu.au/">Curtin University</a> in West Australia says increasing support from governments, energy companies and consumers for electric cars could lead to a rapid market expansion in coming years.</p>
<p>“There is a heightened awareness that electric transport is the way forward,” he says. “Numerous studies have shown that there is the capacity for many electric vehicles to charge at off-peak times which can utilize grid assets more-effectively,” he adds.</p>
